In October 2000 we made Spike and Kyra 'happy' with the arrival
of a six- week- old kitten, called Tijger. After some initial problems
between Spike and Tijger, the situation is much better now. This story
is about them.
I hung several nice cat toys on Tijger's cat tree, with very thin elastic
cord. One early morning in December while I was having breakfast in
the kitchen, I heard Spike barking in the living room. I did not react
immediately, but the constant barking was getting on my nerves. I went
to the living room to give Spike an earful. But then I heard a pityful
miaowing. It was Tijger. It was very dark in the room. At this early
time in the morning I had no glasses on or contactlenses in.
At this time Spike and Tijger were not on very goodterms with each other,
so I was afraid I would find Tijger torn to pieces behind the couch.
I groped my way along the room for the lightswitch. Lights on and and
there was Tijger hanging from his playpole with the elastic band of
a cat toy wound tightly around his little neck. Pitiful miaowing. Next
to it Spike stood barking. With help from my husband I freed Tijger
of the elastic band . It was not as simple as it sounds because the
elastic cord was very tight around his neck. I am afraid to think what
might have happened if Spike had not barked that morning!
