If you are a member
of a mailing list for dog lovers you some time have nice meetings, this
is a report of such a day on a Sunday in March 2002. At seven o 'clock
that sunday morning the alarm went off! After drinking two huge cups
of coffee I walked the dogs (very short and fortunately they did immediately
what was expected of them) and at a quarter to nine I took off with
Kyra. Spike watched us go......I didn't dare taking him because I was
afraid the excitement would cause a fit.
At half past nine I reached our destination (I think I broke some speeding records
there) the dog club. We were not the first ones to arrive, there were
two gentleman at the field already and from the canteen the smell of coffee
reached us. That was our first goal, coffee! Inside I met two listers
who I recognized from their photographs. Coffee with small talk and in
the meantime the others arrived.
At half past ten we started to build the agility course. At your own club
you know exactly what to do but here I could only watch the others do
the building up. (I carried four poles but they were not the right ones
so they had to go back again ;-))))). Kyra and I started with agility.
Two years without any practice but madam knew excactly what to do. Two
times running a perfect course and then Kyra decided it was enough! She
started hoovering the lawn for fallen dog biscuits and when Kyra starts
hoovering you can forget it! Tonny advised me to go to Mary for some clickertraining.
That was a training Kyra liked very much: you sit down, there is a click
and a reward! Great!!Time for coffee(again).
After the coffee,
flyball....Kyra is not interested in balls so it is not a sport for
her...The trainers found the solution in throwing dogbiscuits for her.
For the dogbiscuits she even jumped the obstacles.
Lunch!! Delicious soup and buns.... I ate far too much (Kyra looks a lot like me ;-)))))). After lunch doggydancing, it was fun to do but not a sport for me... Teatime and flyball after that. Then it was time to say goodbye to everyone. It had been a wonderful day! Spike had also had a great day: a long walk with the boss and a swim. The day after I felt muscles I never new they existed....dog sports???
