Smokey and Bandit are born April 17th 2002
Saturday June 1st:
They have arrived. Smokey and Bandit, our two kittens. They are so sweet! We collected them last night. The first meeting with the dogs meant arched little backs, growling and hissing sounds.... For the time being I 'll keep the kittens in a crate in the living room. This way they can get used to the dogs and the dogs to them. I completely trust Kyra with them but Spike is quite another story...
While the dogs were out with my husband I let the kittens roam the room. They are already playing with their toys. Smokey even disappeared through the catflap into the hall. It looks like Smokey is the brave one while Bandit is a little cautious. Right now they are playing together.
I had Spike on lead and the the kittens free. It went well, Spike wagged his tail and allowed them to walk between his legs.
Sunday June 2nd
Smokey and Bandit already slept with Kyra in her dogbasket. Smokey tried to nurse at her. The kittens sleep a lot. The door of the crate was open all day. They have a good appetite.
This evening I let Spike with the kittens in the living room. Spike wanted to leave the room for fear of doing anything wrong. When I didn't let him, he came and stood next to me while the little "Scumbags" misbehaved themselves. Bandit walked between Spike's legs, I am so proud of him! He wagged his tail!! I praised him from here to eternity. The kittens climbed their cat tree! They had so much fun! Spike got tired watching them and went to sleep.
Tuesday June 4th
At lunchtime the
little 'Scum' was missing. I walked the dogs and when I came
home I couldn'tfind
them...I searched the whole house and found them in a closet. Kyra is
busy mothering them. The three of them sleep together in Kyra's basket.
Once in a while one of them tries to nurse at Kyra so far no good....Kyra
washes them and they wash Kyra. Spike behaves like a gentleman, he wags
his tail and from time to time tries to play with the kittens
Thursday June 6th
The little 'Scum' discovered how to climb in the window sill.. so I transported the poisonous plants upstairs. If they want to sit on my lap they climb my legs... ouch....
Sunday June 9th.
Just cleaned the litterbox, a daily task.....Luckily I have got two little helpers.... Such fun!! They are jumping around in the box while I am shoveling, fishing for their p**p.
Tuesday June 11th
Today
the little 'Scum' discovered our bedroom. They had such fun
with the blankets on our bed. Jumping and stalking each other. Both
got lost between the sheets so I had to rescue them...Kyra was unmoved
by the goings on around her. She slept....
Saturday June 22nd
Our son was babysitting
the animals while I went shopping with a friend today. He did an excellent
job. I had separated the kittens from the dogs but my choice of room
proved the wrong
one. Smokey and Bandit were in the living room and Spike and Kyra in
the rest of the house.... The living room looked like a battlefield
when I returned home....They had destroyed a plant by jumping into the
middle of it and playing 'tiger' through the broken twigs. The dog's
rug was under the couch, mud everywhere......The little 'Scum'
is quite at home.....Now that they are used to their surroundings they
have started to demolish it. Next time there'll be a different choice
of room for them!
Monday July 1st
The little 'Scum' have been staying at a cat hotel for four days. They had the time of their lives! There was an another little 'Scum' (one week younger) staying there, too. The three of them got on like a house on fire. The older cats were a little afraid of the three hooligans! When we collected Smokey and Bandit the rugs and pillows were all over the place. When we got home they visited the litterbox and after that they went to their basket and fell in a very deep sleep. They slept for hours not even noticing Spike sniffing them!
Saturday July 6th
I removed the crate from the room. The kittens didn't use it anymore. For sleeping I hung two bicycle baskets on the central heating system in the living room; now they can sleep warm and high.They love it!!
Friday July 12th
Today the kittens have been living with us for six weeks and this is going to be the last entry in their diary. They are growing very fast and they are very cheeky. They have got a roomy cat cage in the garden. So they can go outside safely when the weather is good.
